NULL Awards and Promotions

Bamboo
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
Most Improved
Promotion from Corporal to Specialist

DuQQy, as he is still known in IRC, joined us late in the TF2 division due to a distinctly responsible (and overall alien to me) choice of putting his schooling first before even purchasing the Orange Box. Once his exams were out of the way, he immediately bumped off his FPS rust and quickly ramped up to speed, being one of our best Demomen late in STA season 1.

Cryo
The Money

Cryo, while not around a whole lot, did throw some money at getting our server hosted. Anyone know if this guy is still alive?

Dak
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
The NULL
NULLbel Prize
Consistent Excessive Kills
The Money
Promotion to Second Lieutenant

Dak has been doing the job of an officer for pretty much the entirety of NULL’s TF2 division, so making it official at this point is really just a formality. He has been on top of helping Napalm pick lineups for matches, he’s also consistently towards the top of the scoreboard. It also goes without saying that Dak’s strategery helped us make mincemeat out of a lot of teams with the greatest of ease during Season 1 of STA.

Essobie
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
The Money

This is my writeup, and I’m not going to give myself all the awards I think I deserve. I’ll let everyone else do that. Now get to work.

Gholam
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
NULL Symbol
Outstanding Dedication
Team Player
The Money
Promotion to Private

One of four new recruits recently promoted to Private from Recruitment Class 96, Gholam grabs the NULL Symbol award. But on top of that, he’s shown up for just about every practice night and/or match since he was recruited. He was also very happy to sit to let others play if they were available, or jump in a scrim or match when we were short. Luckily it can be said he wasn’t the only one that fit this description!

Hangy
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
NULL Symbol
Outstanding Dedication
Team Player
Promotion to Private

Much like Gholam, Hangy was here most if not all practices, was happy to warm the bench so others could play, etc.

Hoodlum
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant

He played in one or two matches according to my IRC logs… but I could be reading them wrong. :D

ion[-]
The Money

This guy is Mr. Moneybags. He’s donated 60 bucks to our server hosting fund since TF2 was released. And I think he’s played on it less than any other member. Where are you, guy?

Masamune
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
Outstanding Dedication
The NULL
NULLbel Prize
Promotion from Specialist to Sergeant

Possibly the first NULL member to ever have a lineup position named after him, Masamune defines the “jack of all trades” skillset necessary to drive the opponent nucking futs during a match. Also, he’s helped NULL with a few strategies on some of the more complicated defensive setups needed to pull out a win. Promotion has been long overdue (as have most of them).

Napalm
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
Best of Clan
Outstanding Dedication
The NULL
Consistent Excessive Kills
Team Player
The Money

Napalm gets the Best of Clan nod this go around. He always tops the scoreboard, he shows up to everything (on time even!), and is an all around great teammate. Pubbing with him is only fun if he’s on your team.

Nas
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
NULL Symbol
Outstanding Dedication
Team Player
The Money
Promotion to Private

Yet another outstanding new asset for Clan NULL. Although “new” isn’t exactly appropriate. This guy has been around forever.

Novus
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
The Money

Novus has been nice enough to throw some money towards the server, even if it typically gets used on nights when he goes out to learn a foreign language. Maybe one day he’ll speak it fluently and he can start playing in more than just a couple of matches.

Scabs
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
NULL Symbol
Outstanding Dedication
Team Player
The Money
Promotion to Private

Our final recruit in our very first recruitment run in Team Fortress 2. Scabs is yet another example of recruiting friends of existing members turning out great.

Snow
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
Outstanding Dedication
Team Player
The Money
Rank verified as WO3

Shows up most of the time, contributed funds, and doesn’t mind sitting to let other people play. One of a few guys that were so dedicated that they upgraded their entire computer to get more than 20 FPS during matches.

Toxy
STA TF2 Season 1 Campaign Participant
Team Player
The Money

Is gainfully employed enough to donate funds… even on a teacher’s salary! Doesn’t mind sitting either. Well, more like he sometimes doesn’t show up and other people get his spot. But that’s something, right?

NULL loses, keyboard manufacturers win financially!

Today NULL played in the STA finals against our old rivals from previous fortress incarnations, REV6. What is ironic is that some of us (not me) are probably a lot older than they are, but regardless, I thought I should point that out. Essobie is 75. Going into this match, we lost most of our scrimmages so there was still a bit of sand in our various orifices.

During round one, both teams traded captures while Scabs informed me of what was happening on IRC. Meanwhile, I learned about various neurological pathways in the brain. For the last run, REV6 stopped NULL on point C, winning the round 12-10. Apparently there was an amazing cap block by Vile, but details continue to elude me, as I am not searching for them.

Mid-round, changes were made and I was placed in the lineup as a demoman. Toxy had eaten too many cheeseburgers and there was some confusion as to who was playing in which position, so he navigated the HMS Beachcomber to my spot. Subsequently, REV6 capped all of our points. During our run on offense, everything was going smoothly until Scabs (who also was subbed in) crashed, leaving a ghost on the server for a good while. Eventually we came up with the idea of having REV6 kick him so that we could put another player (Essobie) in. We were manhandled and held at point C. Then, they capped all our points again. For our last D run, we needed to hold them to 1 capture. Since they were setting up at our C point, it was decided that both our demomen should handle that side. Me and Toxy both died and this failed very well. Round 2 ends 12-10 for REV6 again, who are the new STA Gold title holders, with a final score of 24-20. Unspecific blame was privately handed out afterwards, with many of our members pulling their own fingers to release hot air.

A great game played by REV6, who bottled and bonesawed our defense into a very nicely marinaded meat.

On a side note, most of the clans we scrimmaged who were also involved in title matches also lost (sans MW). While I find this somewhat humorous, it is also slightly depressing.

NULL to play in the Finals versus REV6

Balloons relayed 4 flags before we captured our first one, but pretty soon, NULL pulled it together and starting grabbing captures. We let a couple more go, but tightened their lead to only 2. First half score: 6-4, Balloons.

Second half, we made a few lineup changes, and tweaked our strat a bit to put a stronger front defense up that would push when able. Constant streams of ubered Pyros and some much improved communication turned into 11 unanswered captures for NULL. Eventually Balloons rallied enough to grab a flag or two, but not before NULL got 3 more of their own. Final second half score, 14-2, NULL. Match total: 18-8, NULL.

Apparently, REV6 pulled out a nail-biter against Dance Brigade so it will be REV6 vs. NULL in the finals on cp_gravelpit next week.

Congrats, NULL. Great job.

NULL vs. qf. on cp_dustbowl

NULL was able to make quick work of Quantum Flux's defense at all of the Capture Points except CP6. That isn't to say we didn't take that eventually both halves, because we did.

The first half started with Bamboo pretending to uber before setup ended, but QF did not appear to be confused by this enough to give us CP1 outright. As stated before, NULL was able to push through and take all the way to CP6 with little problem. QF was able to preemptively strike with a number of ubered Heavy charges to thwart our uber building at the last turn next to CP6. Eventually enough of them died to allow us in for the capture.

On defense, NULL held fairly well at all of the CPs, until QF got to CP4. At that point, NULL held it extremely well... so well that we ran out the clock, putting NULL at the lead 12 to 6, and winning us the first half.

Second half was much like the first, except QF was able to get a couple of unexpected kills on our CP4's right side defense. Only one of our Medics was alive at the time healing Dak left side, so Napalm and Gholam were not able to sustain a 2 Soldier/2 Medic rush from the right. CP4 fell shortly after. Luckily it was a solid hold, resulting in a very short amount of time left for QF to take CP6.

CP5 fell almost immediately as they dodged our Ubered Pyro at the start, slammed through the D at CP5, and made their way to CP6. A short time later, they had that too.

Luckily, NULL's lighting Dustbowl offense walked through the first 5 CPs enough to have ~24 minutes left on the clock to take CP6. I took a bit, but we were able to grab it with plenty of time left on the clock, and enough to earn a stopwatch bonus point due to the tied half. Final score, 25-18, NULL.

Good game, QF. See you in the first round of the Playoffs on Tuesday!

TF2 News

Clan Null has been gaming since 1997. In that time we have recorded 917 league matches and an unknown number of scrims/pickup matches. Of our recorded league matches, we have won 534, lost 375, and tied 8 times. Our gaming history includes TF, TFC, CS, Q3F, ET, ETF, BF1942 and after a 1.5 year hiatus, we have returned to activity with our TF2 division.

Clan Null's return to activity has been met with great activity, with our division getting together at least three times/week (officially). I've watched our group join each other on pubs until there is an obvious Null presence on the servers and even though we are not recruiting, we still do get applications from people who knew Null from past games.

Our reputation is still one to be proud of. I still hear from many players from the past and they are glad Null is still around. They look forward to play against us both in leagues as well as scrims. Our IRC channel once again has many who idle just to be with our members.

Yet our clan is not done with respect to TF2. Rabbithead and CaptDew are looking at getting a small group of Null's together (who are not playing in the currently active division) and joining up with Clan Rangers (who are tagged as [R2] in-game) and entering a TWL Ladder together. They look to practice Friday nights and play their matches on Saturday nights. If all goes as planned, we'll see this group of Null's begin an active roll in our Clan in January.

In behind the scenes Rip and I have been trying to resolve our web site issues. We are actively searching for web designer though as we search, Rip fiddles with some design ideas as well as plans for the coding of our site.

All in all, the past few months has returned life to our clan. There have been a few bumps, but things are resolving themselves and Null has truly begun a new chapter in that life, a chapter that will only add to our history, one that all may be proud to have been a part of.

Happy New Year to all past and present members of this great clan. May 2008 be one of glory for Null and filled with the sweet rewards of success.

STA Match 11/27/2007: Lopsided Match Versus Darwin Award Winners (x_x)
We won a fairly lopsided victory over (x_x) for our last Division 2 match up. Playing best 3 out of 5 rounds per half, we Scout leapfrogged our way to victory in a very short amount of time, ending the match after only about 15 minutes of play total. This led to much discussion on the STA Captain's forums about possibly altering the format to allow matches to go on for longer, even if they are steamroll matches. Not sure what will come of that discussion as of yet, but right now, it's still winlimit 3.

-NULL- To Play in STA Division 1
The divisions in STA got reshuffled to more accurately place teams still getting their barings down in Division 2, meaning that -NULL- found themselves in the mid to upper portion of Division 1 starting this week.

STA Match 11/20/2007: 2fort Victory against |K{}R|
In a match on a map that not many players seem to like in league play, we were able to pull out a decisive 5-1 victory over Knights of the Harsh Realm. Most exciting moment of the match was when we captured the Intel AFTER the buzzer. Most of us were looking at a 1-1 scoreboard in the second half when it changed to 2-1, preventing sudden death overtime by negative 2 seconds! Luckily, |K{}R| were great sports about it and conceded second half victory. This will add the maximum 3 STA rank points to our ranking as we creep ever so slowly towards the top of the Division ladder.

Tonight's Match: LOSS 8-2 vs Dirtbags .db.
We lost pretty handily to a team running a strategy that we have yet to face this evening. Not all that surprising that we haven't seen it yet since we've had like 4 scrims and 2 matches total in TF2. To fix that, scrims are the order of the day, and we have two coming up planned out already.

Upcoming Scrims
Thursday evening we will be playing against the Sanddawgs |SD| on CP_Gravelpit. This was initially planned by Rabbithead, but I will be following up on it tomorrow to confirm.

Next Monday we are marked down to scrim the team that whooped us this evening, Dirtbags .db. on CP_Gravelpit as well.

Ideally we'll be organizing scrims with talented teams on a very regular basis for not only regular practice nights, but for certain off nights as well (such as Monday). For this reason, please send me an updated list of days you can be available for practice/scrim/matches during the week if you haven't already, or if things have changed, or if you simply don't remember what you told me a few weeks ago. Keeping that information up to date really helps us plan stuff better.

Recruit Advancement
Congrats to Hangy, Gholam, and Nas for reaching Phase 2 of their recruitment process! Thus far they have shown lots of promise and great attendance (even if they have a crappy work schedule that only allows them to stay for an hour of practice). Keep up the good work, guys.

TF2 Leaders

Clan Null is pleased to announce our new TF2 Officers. Rabbithead will be the Lieutenant Colonel, the Commander of our TF2 division. Napalm is our Major, the Field Commander, and Essobie who is Napalm's 2nd in command. Our Officers will now begin the process of organizing things and preparing for league action.

TF2 News

Clan Null will be playing TF2. Our core group of active members are:
Dak / Rabbithead / Zombie / Trigger / Duqqy / Napalm / Toxy / Essobie

With a number of backups:
Karsiss / Cryo / Hoodlum / Tyrus

We are still waiting to hear back from a number of members. At the moment, Null will be looking at 6vs6 leagues, but if we get more of our members back, we will probably be looking at 9vs9.

Clan Null is not recruiting at this time. We must first organize our TF2 Division and the rolls our members will have. Once this is done and we've begun regular practices, recruitment will begin.

Watch here for news on when we will start recruiting, and the process to follow to apply.

New Division??

Clan Null is currently speaking to past and present members to determine if there is enough interest in forming a Team Fortress 2 division. Currently 5 Null's have indicated they will be dedicated men who will become the core group as we build. Team Fortress 2 will be Null's first active division since ETF ended over a year ago. Sadly, our current web site fell to the evil of corruption. Once our TF2 division becomes active, work will be done to rebuild and redesign our site.

All current and past Nulls who are interested in joining us as we play TF2 should contact me (Karsiss) in #null ASAP.

Website

This is our temp. website. As you know we suffered a crash and lost all the data for the site, even the backup tape ended up being corrupt (Doh!). Hopefully we will have something new up soon.
